Frontier Developments said it needs to cut costs by around 20 percent, and that includes job losses as part of a company review that it hopes to conclude by January next year.

“The review will deliver enhancements to Frontier's leadership and structure, drive efficiencies across the Company and achieve a reduction in annual operating costs of up to 20%,” said Frontier in a trading update. “The cost reductions will be achieved through a recruitment freeze, spending cuts and, unfortunately, redundancies, subject to consultation.”

Frontier will release Warhammer Age of Sigma: Realms of Ruin for PlayStation, PC and Xbox on November 17.

In July Frontier released F1 Manager 2023, but it said that this year follows a period of disappointing sales, and it has also struggled due to conditions in the market.

“During 2023, Frontier refined its strategy to refocus on its core strengths following a period of disappointing financial performance and more challenging industry conditions,” it said. “The Organisational Review announced today will reshape Frontier to deliver on that updated strategic plan more efficiently, return the Company to profit, and create a sustainable foundation for the future.”

Redundancies and layoffs have swept across the video games industry this year. Most recently Epic Games decided to axe 900 employees, Telltale got rid of the majority of its Wolf Among Us 2 team and Embracer Group is reportedly looking to sell-off studios it only recently acquired.
