The Traitors Episodes 1-3

The best new reality TV show of 2023 was inarguably Peacock's The Traitors, and thankfully the show (along with Alan Cumming and his over-the-top outfits) is now back for Season 2. Unlike Season 1, which mixed reality TV legends with newbies, Season 2's cast is celebs only. Twenty-one players from shows like Big Brother, The Challenge and The Real Housewives have entered the Scottish mansion and been assigned the titles of either Traitor or Faithful. Now they'll eliminate each other one by one, duking it out for the $250,000 prize pot.

On Jan. 12, 2024, Peacock released the first three episodes of the season (episodes will be released one at a time every Friday from here on), and A LOT has already happened. Episode 1 saw the Traitors selected, and by the end of Episode 3, four of their competitors had already been eliminated.

Here's everything that went down in Episodes 1-3 of The Traitors Season 2:

Who was murdered on The Traitors Season 2 Episodes 1-3?

Johnny Bananas (Faithful)

The first casualty of The Traitors Season 2 was none other than The Challenge legend Johnny Bananas. During the first mission, Bananas proved himself to be a challenge beast, helping the group rack up an impressive amount of cash for the pot. However, the original two Traitors, Dan Gheesling and Phaedra Parks, wanted to send a message to the others that no one was safe and opted to eliminate him right off the bat.

In Episode 3, the fully formed Traitors, who now included Parvati Shallow among their ranks, decided to murder Michael Jordan's son and Larsa Pippen's boyfriend. During the scarecrow mission, he was voted the most trusted player in the house, and when he began to suspect Dan, it only made sense for him to be eliminated. His boot, however, did send shockwaves through the castle and left Larsa determined to find his killers.

Who was banished on The Traitors Season 2 Episodes 1-3?

Peppermint
Peacock

Peppermint (Faithful)

In Episode 2, after Bananas' murder and at their first Round Table, the remaining 20 players voted to banish the RuPaul's Drag Race alum and trans activist. The previous night, she'd made a face when Trishelle Cannatella made a joke about Peppermint being a Traitor. Somehow Peppermint's reaction was blown way out of proportion and and the group, in a nearly unanimous vote, opted to banish her. The final count was 17 votes for Peppermint, with Peppermint voting for Trishelle and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Mercedes "MJ" Javid voting for John Bercow (because he breathed weird). When Peppermint revealed herself to be a Faithful, many were not at all happy with Trishelle for leading the witch hunt.

The vote count:

 • Peppermint (17) - Trishelle, CT, Parvati, Sandra, Dan, Janelle, Phaedra, Sheree, Tamra, Larsa, Marcus, Deontay, John, Ekin-Su, Bergie, Kevin, Peter

 • John (2) - Maksim, MJ

 • Trishelle (1) - Peppermint

At the second Round Table of the season, a fourth Faithful was eliminated when the Dancing with the Stars pro was banished. Unlike with Peppermint's banishment, the votes in the second banishment were all over the place, but in the end Deontay Wilder lead a majority to vote out Maks based on his standoffish attitude. When for the second week in a row, however, the group sent home a Faithful, tensions began to rise.

The vote count:

 • Maksim (10) - Trishelle, CT, Sandra, Dan, Janelle, Tamra, Deontay, John, Ekin-Su, Bergie

 • Kevin (2) - Parvati, Peter

 • Ekin-Su (2) - Phaedra, Maksim

 • Dan (2) - Larsa, MJ

 • Peter (1) - Kevin

 • Janelle (1) - Sheree

Who won Shields during Episodes 1-3?

Unlike in Season 1, where Shields, which protect you from being murdered by the Traitors, were awarded via a game of chance, in Season 2, Shields are available in each challenge if you're willing to spend time working to get one rather than money for the prize pot. Here's who received the shields in the first three challenges:

 • Episode 1 (Row Boat Puzzle) - Janelle, CT and Deontay

 • Episode 2 (Scarecrow Challenge) - Dan

 • Episode 3 (Grave Robbing Challenge) - Tamra, Peter and Janelle

What is the Poisoned Chalice on The Traitors Season 2?

At the end of Episode 3 rather than murder a Faithful in the traditional way via letter, the Traitors must convince one of the Faithfuls to drink out of the Poisoned Chalice. As Episode 3 ends, we see Parvati frantically trying to get someone to drink the "poison," but the victim won't be revealed until Episode 4.

Which players remain in The Traitors Season 2?

With four players eliminated, there remain 17 contestants in the hunt for the $250,000, with three Traitors and 14 Faithfuls. The remaining players are:

 • Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen (Faithful)

 • Chris "CT" Tamburello (Faithful)
