Everybody knows how smart elephants are, but this video that @endlesssafari shared in September 2023 proves that they're problem solvers, too!

Marius Coetzee is the CEO of ORYX Photo Tours, which takes adventurers on excursions around the world. In this video, Marius is recording a herd of elephants in Kenya trying to get past a high-voltage fence so they can get to a swamp. The bull uses his foot to push the fence over, but it didn't work like he wanted it to. He then uses his tusks to lift the post out of the ground and lays it down so the herd can step over the barbed wire. Everybody makes it across safe and sound!

@endlesssafari's video is really incredible to watch. Clearly the beautiful elephants can problem solve and work through a very tough issue to get where they need to go.

Commenters felt strongly that electric fences were a barrier, but not the solution to the problem of keeping elephants away not just in Kenya, but everywhere they live. @afromaxxtours shared, "There need to be more pathways for elephants. There are too many roads, houses, boundaries and fences... if we want to keep them safe, we need to help protect their routes". @kaizen_press added, "Bees. They hate bees. But bees are great pollinators and deter elephants from raiding farms. We still need to allow them ample land for natural foraging, however."

There was so much concern for the elephants' safety in the comments. Like many others @paloma5454 said, "Omg hope they don’t get hurt with that wire", to which Marius replied, "They're too smart to get hurt!" I guess that means they wouldn't have crossed if they felt there was danger. I'm glad they were able to do it safely.
