Elderly Dog with Lymphoma Opens Christmas Presents Early and It's Heartbreaking

The heartbreaking reality of opening your home and heart to a senior dog is that these beautiful pups may leave the world a lot sooner than you are prepared for.

Mila, a mixed-breed rescue dog from Detroit received her Christmas presents early because her owner was worried Mila wouldn't still be around to celebrate Christmas.

The heartbreaking video, shared by the TikTok account for @PawsfriendNetwork, has everyone in their feelings. @Cass comments, "Currently fostering a senior. They deserve the world." @Andy adds, "Thank you for giving her a wonderful home and memories." @Fudge responds, "She’s a lucky girl to have such a loving home."

Mila's Sweet Story

Newsweek reports, "Mila was adopted three months ago and diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes and lymphatic system shortly after. Lymphoma is a relatively common cancer, accounting for 15 to 20 percent of new cancer diagnoses in dogs, according to the VCA Animal hospital. "

"Our vet said we'd be lucky to see the end of the calendar year, but more likely of days to weeks when she was diagnosed three months ago, so I'm really grateful for the time we have together each day, " said Mila's owner, Tiffany Perkins.

Tiffany encourages everyone to open up their homes and hearts to foster dogs and says, "Fostering is free, and so valuable for elderly dogs in kennels."

If you are interested in fostering an elderly dog for the holidays, please contact your local Humane Society, rescue organization or animal control center. You'll be freeing up  kennel space for another dog to get a second chance at a happy home and giving an elderly dog all the love and care they deserve this holiday season, and every day of their lives.
