At long last, the trailer for Elden Rings DLC Shadow of the Erdtree is here. The DLC expansion has been in the works for at least a year and was announced last year. After a year of secrecy, barring a few Steam database leaks, we finally have an idea of what the DLC will hold for returning players.

The three-minute gameplay trailer shows plenty of new locales, enemies, and weapons for players to master. It’s easy to see how this is From Software’s biggest expansion yet.

Surprisingly, the DLC will not be exclusive to the current-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. It looks like From Software still wants to support players on last-gen consoles, which might hold back the technical ambitions of the DLC.

The original game was a cross-gen title, with some severe performance issues on current-gen consoles. Players found an ingenious way to circumvent this by playing the PS4 version of the game on PS5, which resulted in a rock-solid 60fps experience. The game has since received numerous updates, including ray-traced shadows on PC and current-gen consoles.

Elden Ring was released back in February 2022 to critical acclaim, selling over 20 million copies and winning the Game of the Year award at TGA that year. Developer From Software’s next title, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon also released to positive reception. While the announcement of the DLC is good news for Souls fans, many are still looking forward to From Software’s next title.
