El Niño Could Deliver Record Snow To Ski Resorts In "Central And Southern Rockies"- AccuWeather

AccuWeather is joining in on the preseason hype regarding an 'intense' El Niño event developing in the Pacific ocean.

The weather service just released a short video detailing which ski resorts should expect above average snowfall, and which will be yearning for snow.

Check out the video below:

AccuWeather: "It may only be the start of October, but that means we're just weeks from the start of ski season at several major resorts. Here's a taste of what this year's ski season will most likely bring."

We've covered quite a few preseason snow forecasts here at Powder since we learned that an intense El Niño event was likely to form. Trying to predict who will see the most snowfall in the coming season is one of our favorite pastimes as skiers.

There's quite a deal of differing opinions from The Farmers' Almanac's less-than scientific methods, to NOAA's meteorological outlooks, but most forecasts tend to agree on two things:

1. Ski resorts in the Central and Southern Rockies could see 'above average' snowfall and 'below average' temperatures.

2. Ski resorts in the Pacific Northwest are expected to see 'above average' temperatures and 'below average' snowfall.

How will this actually shake out? That remains to be seen.

Forecasts called for La Niña to dominate last winter, and while meteorologists were correct in their predictions, no one predicted record-setting snowfall for the Sierras, Wasatch, and Tetons.

It's wishful thinking, but we're hoping that ski resorts from California to Maine see record snowfall this coming season.

Is that too much to ask for?
