Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson recently upgraded the backyard of their Atlanta home with a new deck, and it’ll make every homeowner want in on the action. The Married to Real Estate stars traded in their wood deck for a composite one by TimberTech, so naturally we had to get the intel on it—including what the duo loves the most about the deck, how they like to spend time on it, and tips they have for selecting outdoor furnishings. Plus, the pair shared the outdoor living trend they love right now.

So far, the couple is ecstatic that the deck requires zero maintenance. While it looks like real wood, the deck is mainly made of recycled materials like plastic bags and milk jugs. “Usually, right around this time, Mike would be outside stripping and restaining the deck as well as power washing the pollen,” Egypt tells House Beautiful. “At this moment, as I look out the window, the rain we had two days ago easily washed away the pollen. And best of all, no staining is necessary. We just have to throw down our outdoor rug and pillows, and we are ready to go.”

Sherrod likes to coordinate her outdoor furniture and color scheme with her home's interior design. But for anyone furnishing for an outdoor space, she strictly recommends buying weather-durable furniture. “There really is a difference between items meant for outdoor versus indoor,” she says. “Also, get outdoor performance fabrics for your rugs and pillows.”

For Sherrod and Jackson, time spent outside is often enjoyed with family and friends. “We are the party house,” Sherrod says, noting that events like birthdays, pool parties, and graduations frequently take place with three kids in the house. She adds: “We have a Mother’s Day barbecue coming up. Right after that, it’s a poolside spades tournament on the Fourth of July. With our new TimberTech deck, we don’t have to worry about splinters in little toes.”

Investing in a deck that’ll last for decades aligns with a big shift Sherrod is seeing in outdoor living. “There is a huge turn to organic, sustainable, earth-conscious living, and we are here for it,” she says. “Designing with a conscious is what it's all about at the moment. Consumers are frequently seeking environmentally friendly options without sacrificing on style or quality.”
