Eek, There’s a Video of Prince William Breaking Protocol by Not Bowing to Queen Camilla

If you thought the internet was done analyzing random moments from King Charles III’s coronation, lol, not even close. This week, a clip of Prince William seemingly breaking royal protocol and not bowing to Queen Camilla during the Coronation Concert is making the rounds on TikTok.

As you can see in the video below, Queen Camilla and King Charles had to pass Kate Middleton and Prince William to take their seats—and while Kate curtsied to both Charles and Camilla, William bowed only to his dad.

Unclear if this was an intentional snub, but what we do know is that Prince William—and every member of the British royal family—is expected to bow to Queen Camilla. A source told Page Six back in September (after the death of Queen Elizabeth II), “The personal impact is likely the protocol changes that roll into action almost immediately. The family will now have to bow or curtsy to King Charles and Queen [Consort] Camilla.”

Meanwhile, William is known to have a pretty tense relationship with his stepmother. And according to royal author Angela Levin, he doesn’t view Camilla as a step-grandmother to his kids. “William has made it clear that Camilla is the wife of his father but not a step-grandmother to his children,” Levin said in her book Camilla: From Outcast to Queen Consort (via InStyle), adding that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis know they have “two grandfathers but only one grandmother.”

Levin also explained that Camilla has no issues with William’s feelings on the matter, “nor has she tried to take over any responsibility as a step-grandmother to the Cambridges’ children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Especially as Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are so close.”
