Here at Southern Living, we always keep our eyes peeled for the next big thing as well as honor the classics. Nothing proves this dedication to both the old and new quite like our favorite mascaras. Some of our editors swear by drugstore staples, while others are willing to splurge a little more for what they consider the good stuff. A few of these mascaras have been around for decades, while others have been around for only a few years but have already reached holy grail status. We can’t make any promises that our mascara recommendations will change your life (it’s not like you’ve hit the jackpot), but it might just make your daily makeup routine a little bit better. Sometimes, the only thing that gets done in the morning before you slip out the door is a wave of the mascara wand, so why not try something that we consider the best of the best? Have we ever steered you wrong before?

Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of talk about our eyelashes from lash extensions to fake lashes to mascara that’s too good to be true, but these mascaras have been tried and true for our editors through all of those fleeting beauty moments. Some of these mascaras are perfect for those with blonde lashes, others are great for glasses wearers and some are ideal for sensitive eyes. So, whatever you're looking for when it comes to your mascara, you are likely to find it here.

Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara

This mascara is the favorite of not just one member of the Southern Living team, but two. Assistant Homes Editor Cameron Beall says, "I swear by this one! And the best part is it doesn't smear and comes off super easy with just water!" It's also great for those with fairer lashes according to our Senior Staff Writer Meghan Overdeep. "I've been using it for years," she shares. "It's the only mascara that makes my thin, blonde lashes look like lashes!" Jinx!

L'Oreal Paris Makeup Telescopic Original Lengthening Mascara

"I will only ever buy drugstore mascara, and this one is the BEST," our Assistant General Manager, Anna Price Olson explains. She's not the only one that feels this way about this mascara. With over 38,000 five star reviews on Amazon, this is the go-to mascara for many.

Clinique High Impact Mascara

Yes, some of our editors and our readers will only go for a drugstore mascara, but some of us feel like there is something better out there. "This one is my favorite!" explains Editorial Fellow Hallie Milstein. "I know that people say that all mascara is made equal, but if that's the case, why haven't I found a drugstore one I love as much as this one?"

Maybelline New York Volum' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara

As anyone who wears glasses and mascara at the same time knows, sometimes giving someone the side eye can end up with some mascara all over your glasses. Alana Al-Hatlani, our assistant food editor, feels that pain. But she's found that Maybelline New York Volum' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara has saved her glasses and her lashes. "I have used this one for years, it's especially great for people who wear glasses (doesn't transfer)," she says. An added bonus? "It's great for sensitive eyes."

COVERGIRL Lash Blast Volume Mascara

"I love Covergirl's LashBlast Volume Mascara in Brown, as the color feels just right for everyday wear," our Homes and Features Editor Betsy Cribb reveals. "I felt a little sheepish about my drugstore preference until a professional makeup artist told me this little $9 orange tube is her go-to. She recommends saving on mascara and splurging on a good liquid eyeliner instead."

CoverGirl Lash Blast Clean Volume Mascara

For those with sensitive eyes, CoverGirl has you covered. Senior Digital Editor Rebecca Angel Baer explains, "I have very sensitive eyes and skin so I find that this Covergirl Lashblast Clean is the best one for me." This special clean, vegan formula has argan and marula oils that are easy on the eyes.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara

A lot of British and Southern trends seem to merge, even when it comes to makeup. Digital Editor Jenna Sims shares, "I love Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara just as much as the Pillow Talk lipstick!" If you've heard anything about this brand from across the pond, you've heard of Pillow Talk lipstick. "It gives my lashes a more full appearance without any clumping, which is the problem I often have with other formulas that promise volume."

Glossier Lash Slick

You might have heard of the no-makeup makeup trend, and really anything Glossier fits that bill, but our Deputy Editor Lisa Cericola says that their Lash Slick is her go-to. She says that the mascara: "Layers well, doesn't smudge, and never clumps! The whole 'your lashes but better' thing is true."

L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara

Milstein and Associate Digital Editor Kaitlyn Yarborough are both fans of this timeless mascara that has been a fan favorite for decades. "When I'm looking to save a bit, this drug store one is begrudgingly my go-to," Milstein reveals.

Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara

Yarborough is essentially Southern Living's in-house beauty expert, and while she usually goes for L'Oréal Pairs Voluminous Original Mascara, Monsieur Big is her secret weapon. She exclaims, "It makes your eyelashes seriously pop!"
