Dyson’s Big + Quiet purifier, a massive air purifier designed to target pollutants as harmful as formaldehyde, normally carries a hefty price tag of almost $900. But luckily for you, it’s on sale right now for almost half off during Prime Big Deal Days.

If you're debating about whether or not to buy one, hear me out: Over the summer, I moved into a New York City apartment around the same time the wildfire smoke wreaked havoc on NYC’s air quality. One of my biggest concerns was keeping the air inside my home clean. I was moving into an older building, and with window A/C units constantly bringing in the outdoor breeze, I wanted some extra protection against any harmful pollutants. While I opted for a small air purifier to keep clean air flowing in my bedroom, I jumped at the chance to test Dyson’s Big + Quiet product for the living room and kitchen.

I chose one of the pricier units in the Big + Quiet line for its powerful purification process. (The BP06 is engineered for office settings, so that should give you an idea of just how effective it can be.) Make no mistake, this purifier lives up to its name. Compared to some of the smaller models I was picturing, this thing was huge. Despite its size, however, the unit was quiet even on its highest setting. The only reason I know it’s even on is that I can see the leaves on my roommate’s monstera plant blowing in the projected air.

Additionally, I thought from the size of the box that the air purifier would be an all-day project to assemble, but it was a simple snapping of the head onto the body. Plus, it came with wheels for easy repositioning. You’ll have to be careful about where you place it though, as the angle of airflow in the BP06 is fixed. For an adjustable angle, look into the BP04.

One of the trickiest parts of using an air purifier is that, outside of odor removal or seeing build up on a filter, you really can’t tell if it’s working. The Dyson Big + Quiet is compatible with the myDyson app, which takes care of that worry by explaining every change in air quality in real time. I can watch graphs of how my air pollution levels are on average, exactly how and when they increase; what kind of pollutants are in my home and how long it took the Dyson to remove them.

The Big + Quiet design goes above and beyond by teaching you about your home’s air quality while cleaning it. And not surprisingly, all the information I'm learning from the data has made me rethink certain habits at home. There are far more pernicious sources of indoor air pollution than I realized: candles, incense, the occasional pet hair, and painting crafts to name a few. The upside here? The purifier’s filter eradicates smoke instantly, whether it's coming from the palo santo sticks burning in my living room or the cooking from the kitchen down the hall.

After several weeks of having this Dyson product in my home, I can’t imagine living in my NYC apartment with it. The peace of mind it gives me is unmatched. The only part of it that feels prohibitive is the cost, so the chance to buy it for a fraction of its list price should not be missed.
