Fall and Dutch ovens go hand-in-hand, just like peanut butter and jelly, bees and honey, salt and pepper—you get the idea. Only the best soups and stews, sauces, and even crusty breads can be  made in this nifty pot. It’s why we set out to find the very best ones, ranking the few that passed our rigorous tests, to help you  outfit your own kitchen.

So when we find one of those top-ranked models marked down, especially just in time for cozy cooking, we feel the need to let people know. And our favorite cast iron Dutch oven from Lodge is officially on sale right now for just $50. The best part of all? It pulls double-duty as a skillet, too.

Lodge 5-Quart Double Dutch Oven

We love this Dutch oven for a whole slew of reasons. Firstly, it’s made of solid cast iron, and comes pre-seasoned that way you can use it right out of the box. This material can heat up quickly and hold its heat well, so it’s perfect for getting a great sear on a steak, or maintaining its heat for a slow simmer when making stew.

It is 5 quarts, which makes for a versatile capacity, since it’ll be big enough to hold larger recipes like soup for the family, but isn’t too big that it’s tough to find uses for it (or carry it, for that matter). We specifically love its pared down size for no-knead breads, since loaves will have the right amount of room and heat for proper rising and browning.

The biggest perk of all  is that the tight-fitting lid doubles as a 10.25 inch skillet, which means you can get double the use out of this piece of cookware. Once you remove it from the pot, it has its own set of helper handles on either side, and a flat bottom that can go right onto any cooking surface. Use it to sear steak, cook salmon, and bake cornbread, casseroles, and  desserts.

Both pieces are oven, stovetop, grill, and campfire-safe, which we love. Keep it at home for everyday dinners and holiday meals, or take it with you on the go. Plus, with its cast iron material,  It can virtually last forever too, as long as you maintain it properly.

For us, this is the best Dutch oven pick if you love cooking with cast iron. You’ll get all the perks of heat retention and a versatile size, all with an extra piece of cookware. Grab it while it’s on sale now for $50 at Amazon.
