Edition Is Opening a Sleek New Hotel in This Florida City — Here's a First Look Inside

The Tampa Edition opens Sept. 20 in a brand-new, 26-story building in the trendy Water Street Tampa district.

Tampa’s bustling cultural and culinary scenes are certainly a draw for visitors (and retirees), but the Florida city is also emerging as a luxury destination. After welcoming the JW Marriott last year, Tampa is adding another high-end property to its modern skyline.

The Tampa Edition will open on Sept. 20 in the trendy Water Street Tampa district, a $3.5 billion mixed-use urban development unfolding over 9 million square feet. Created by visionary hotelier Ian Schrager with Marriott International, the 26-story property, which houses the hotel and 38 private residences, stands out with its art deco–inspired curves and wraparound terraces. Spread over the first nine floors, the hotel boasts 172 rooms, a rooftop terrace with a pool, a spa, a gym, and seven food-and-beverage spaces led by chef John Fraser. Edition’s signature aesthetic, rooted in sophisticated simplicity and style, is fully displayed here. From the expansive lobby’s 20-foot-high ceilings and dramatic white marble sculptural staircase (an Edition fixture) to the sprawling pool club and garden with Japanese blueberry trees and pops of purple bougainvillea, the property is a feast for the senses.

The guest rooms and suites are clad in sleek marble and oak, custom furniture, and photography by the late New York fashion photographer Rodney Smith. The property’s one-bedroom penthouse has an open-plan living and dining room, a pantry, a walk-in closet, and a spacious bathroom.

“The design is simple and pure. There isn’t anything superfluous or gratuitous, nor a wasted gesture,” Schrager said in a press release sent to Travel + Leisure.

Tampa Edition is also adding an impressive seven eateries to the city’s culinary landscape, making it a hot spot for gastronomes. Lilac, the brand’s signature modern Mediterranean restaurant blends the flavors of Greece, Turkey, and the eastern Mediterranean.

On the second floor of the property is Punch Room, a cozy bar designed to evoke Old Hollywood glamour with rich jewel tones of emerald and sapphire, walnut paneling, a double-sided fireplace, and marble tables. As a nod to the legendary pirate Jose Gaspar, who roamed the coastal waters in West Florida in the 18th and 19th centuries, the cocktail menu features aged spirits, spices, and Caribbean-inspired drinks with tropical fruits.

On the hotels ninth floor, guests will find The Rooftop, which comprises another restaurant, a sprawling private pool club, with cabanas reserved for hotel guests and residents, and a bar that will host DJ sets by night.

Multiple event spaces, including two studios, a boardroom, and an entertainment venue inspired by Radio City Music Hall, round out the hotel’s impressive amenities.
