Ed Sheeran has revealed that his 30-year-old wife Cherry Seaborn was diagnosed with a tumour while pregnant with their second child.

Taking to Instagram, Sheeran – who typically keeps his family life out of the spotlight – opened up about his recent mental health struggles, saying that writing his songs became his "therapy" when he found himself in his "deepest darkest thoughts".

Explaining what led him to feel this way, Sheeran spoke about his wife's diagnosis, the sudden death of his friend, Jamal Edwards, and a court battle centred around his music. "Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth," he wrote, adding: "My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter."

Sheeran continued, "I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air."

The musician did not elaborate further on his wife's condition, and their child – with whom Seaborn was pregnant with at the time of her diagnosis – is now approaching their first birthday. The couple have been married since 2019 and share daughter Lyra Antarctica, who was born in August 2020, as well as a second child whose name and gender has not been shared.

Sending all our love and positive thoughts to Sheeran, Seaborn and their family!
