Ed Sheeran revealed his wife Cherry Seaborn had a serious medical complication while pregnant with their second daughter.

Ed Sheeran is opening up about some of the personal struggles he's been going through recently, including the unexpected health scare his wife experienced during her latest pregnancy.

Cherry Seaborn—who wed the singer-songwriter back in 2019—was apparently diagnosed with a tumor while pregnant with the pair's second daughter, Jupiter, who was born last May. (Sheeran and Seaborn are also parents to 2-year-old daughter Lyra, whom they welcomed in August 2020.)

While announcing his newest album Subtract this week, the English musician told his social media followers about his wife's scary health complication during her pregnancy, noting that she was not able to receive treatment until after the baby was born.

"Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth," he wrote in a social media statement on Wednesday, March 1 to discuss the inspiration behind his new album. While he didn't give an update on Seaborn's current health status, Sheeran also mentioned the death of his close friend, as well as the copyright infringement case against him over his song "Shape of You," which all happened within the same time frame.

"My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter," he wrote. "I was spiralling [sic] through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air."

Also in his post, the 32-year-old explained that he had been working on Subtract for a decade, but "at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art."

While making diary entries about his complex feelings, Sheeran says he "replaced a decade's worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts."

"As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life," the post read. "This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time, I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life."

"This is last February’s diary entry and my way of making sense of it. This is Subtract," he concluded the emotional post, which also included a picture of the hand-written diary entry.

Subtract is scheduled to release on May 5, 2023.
