Ed Sheeran Confirms He’s Married: Find Out How
Confirmed! Ed Sheeran is, indeed, married to wife Cherry Seaborn. After months of speculation, the singer confirmed that he tied the knot with his longtime love in his latest album, No. 6 Collaborations Project, which was released on Friday.
While fans believed that the “Perfect” hitmaker wed Seaborn last August, he managed to keep the details of his relationship out of the public eye—until now.
In the song “Remember the Name” with Eminem and 50 Cent, Sheeran sings, “Watch how the lyrics in this song might get twisted/My wife wears red but looks better without the lipstick.”
In an interview with singer Charlamagne Tha God about his new album, Sheeran opened up about writing the lyric before he was actually married. “It was actually before me and Cherry got married, and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out,” he revealed. “So I said, ‘Watch how the lyrics in this song might get twisted/My wife wears red but looks better without the lipstick,’ And I was like ’cause someone’s going to hear that and be like ‘Oh they’re married,’ and I didn’t know how that would be. But, obviously, it’s already come out.”
In the same interview, Sheeran further discussed how his wife influenced “Best Part of Me,” another song on the album. “I constantly wake up every day with Cherry and I’m just like, ‘Why the f— are you with me? You could literally be with whoever you wanted, and you’ve chosen me. And I’m saying all of the things that I think are wrong with me, but you still want to be with me,’” he shared. “And I just find that amazing.”
He also revealed that Seaborn encouraged him to collaborate with Justin Bieber on the song “I Don’t Care.” “Bieber just got married. I’d just got married,” he explained. “That song is about being at an industry event with the woman you love, or the person you love, and kind of being like, ‘F— this, let’s just have fun ourselves.’ It was actually Cherry’s idea, because she was like, ‘Oh, why don’t you get Bieber? Like, he’d be perfect for this. [He] just fits it.'”
The couple began dating in 2015 and officially announced their engagement in January 2018. When speaking about his wife to Charlamagne, he said, “It’s quite sweet to always think that the person that you’re with is out of your league,” adding that he doesn’t take their relationship for granted. “I tour a lot. I spend a lot of time on the road. And I have to go on the road and have this belief that, you know, this is meant to be.”
