"Eclipse Black IPA Release Party" Saturday at Raquette River Brewing

Apr. 6—TUPPER LAKE — Raquette River Brewing is hosting an "Eclipse Black IPA Release Party" Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 11 Balsam St. in Tupper Lake.

The Brewers at Raquette River Brewing — Kevin Connell, Tanner Hockey, and Taylor Kenniston — wrote this recipe to include hops that are all named after things out of this world. This brew has dark roasty flavors paired with west-coast style hop character. It truly is a phenomenon all in itself.

"The sky is going to go black for three minutes, so we figured why not make a black IPA" — Tanner Hockey.

"They started working on the concept probably six months ago I would say," Madison Weise, social media coordinator/label artist, said.

"They used all hops that were named after things in space. The Eclipse Black IPA, obviously, is a play on the idea that it will be completely black out. So we thought that was the perfect way and ode to the phenomenon that is going to happen here soon."

The first keg will be tapped in the Beer Hall for the Release Party at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and then it will be first-come first-served. Cans to go and limited-edition "Totality in Tupper Lake" T-shirts featuring the brewery's fermenters will also be available for purchase.

"It's all packaged," Weise said.

"It's waiting. It's going to be very limited in-house only. They're going to tap the first keg at the event."

The Adirondack Sky Observatory will have protective glasses and will be presenting an information session on the total Eclipse.

Coldwell Banker will have limited editions stickers available.

A keg of "Eclipse Black IPA" will also be tapped at noon in the brewery's Lake Placid Tasting Room in the Alpine Mall.

"We are thrilled to meet new people for this once-in-a-lifetime event," Weise said.
