Echo, Google Home, Roku: Black Friday Deals on Streaming Devices and Smart Speakers

Whether you’re a budding cord cutter, or just looking to give someone their first smart speaker: This year’s holiday season once again starts with deep discounts on Black Friday, and a number of companies have slashed prices for streaming devices and internet-connected audio gear. Even some streaming services are getting in on the action, offering discounted memberships and subsidized hardware bundles. Here are some of the best offers by category:

Streaming devices

Roku Streaming Stick+: Roku is selling its new 4K streaming stick for $49.99 (down from $69.99) via its website as well as participating retailers. (Offer valid from Wednesday 11/23 9.01 p.m. PT to Monday 11/27 11:59 p.m. PT).

Roku Express+: This Walmart-exclusive device is being sold for $22 (down from $39) in stores on Black Friday.

Shield TV: Nvidia’s streaming device will sell for $149 without a game controller and $169 with game controller, which is both $30 less than its regular price. Retailers include Amazon, Best Buy and Staples. (Offer valid from 11/20 to 11/27).

Google Chromecast: Google will both discount its Chromecast video streaming adapter plus its Chromecast Audio by $10, and sell it for $25 via Best Buy, Target and the Google Store (sale starts on 11/23). And on Black Friday, Walmart is selling Chromecast in store for $20, and giving an additional $5 in Vudu video credits.

Amazon Fire TV Stick: Amazon is selling its streaming stick with voice remote for $24.99 (down from $39.99). No word on the timing of this deal, so keep an eye on Amazon’s website.

Smart speakers

Amazon Echo Dot: Amazon will sell its mini smart speaker for $29.99 (down from $49.99). No word on the timing of this deal, so keep an eye on Amazon’s website.

Amazon Echo: The refreshed Echo speaker will be on sale for $79.99 (down from $99.99). No word on the timing of this deal, so keep an eye on Amazon’s website.

Amazon Echo Plus: This Echo, which doubles as a smart hub, will sell for $119.99 (down from $149.99). No word on the timing of this deal, so keep an eye on Amazon’s website.

Google Home Mini: Google’s newest smart speaker will see a price cut to $29 (down from $49). Best Buy, Target. and the Google Store website (sale starts on 11/23) will throw another $10 gift card with each purchase, effectively reducing the price to $19.

Google Home: Google’s original smart speaker will sell for just $79 (down from $129) at Best Buy, Target and the Google Store.

Sonos: Sonos is discounting its newly-introduced Sonos One smart speaker to $175 (down from $199). Other Black Friday deals include the Play:1 for $149 (down from $199), the Play:3 for $249 (down from $299) and the Playbar and Playbase both for $599 (down from $699). Sales start on 11/23 on Sonos.com.

Streaming services:

iTunes: Apple’s download store is having a $5 Black Friday sale on a number of movies, including “Capote” and “Inglorious Basterds.”

Lifetime Movie Club: Lifetime’s standalone subscription service is offering new subscribers 6 months for the price of 3 ($11.99) after 7 days of free trial. The offer is available during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weeks.

History Vault: The History Channel’s streaming service is also offering new subscribers 6 months for the price of 3 ($14.99) after 7 days of free trial. The offer is available during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weeks.

Sling TV: Dish’s online streaming service is offering significant discounts on a number of devices, including the Roku Express, Roku Ultra and an indoor TV antenna to consumers who pre-pay for multiple months of service. More details on Sling’s website.
