As we know, painting can be a bit challenging and requires proper preparation. Whether you use paintbrushes, paint rollers, or spray paint, there are a few hacks to consider that promise a seamless and smooth application.

DIYer Camilla Bakken here shared another important tip on how to paint the hardware of your door without getting any paint on the surrounding area. Let's find out more!

This is brilliant!

Spray painting can be a messy task, but as you can see, there's a simple and effective hack you can use to prevent paint splatters on the surrounding area by creating a makeshift spray booth using a cardboard box.

Now it looks like the door just came with the black hardware.

Wow!

Alright, all you need is an old cardboard box, such as an empty Amazon box, a box cutter, some frog tape or painter's tape, and of course, spray paint in the color of your choice.

Start by masking off the edges around the hardware with tape.

Then cut an opening on the back side of the box. If your cardboard box is actually folded, close the flaps of the cardboard box and secure them with tape, and then cut an opening in the back.

When you're ready to paint, with one hand, position the cardboard box around the hardware, covering the surrounding area to prevent overspray from reaching it. Then shake the spray paint can well with your dominant hand, following the manufacturer's instructions. Hold it at the recommended distance from the hardware and apply light coats of paint, moving in smooth, even strokes.

You may need to apply multiple coats to achieve the desired finish; however, allow each coat to dry first before applying the next.

Once you're satisfied with the paint coverage, let the painted hardware dry completely before carefully removing the masking tape from around the hardware.

This method allows you to change the color or finish of your door hardware while it's still installed, minimizing the risk of overspray and mess in the surrounding area.
