Meet NaTusha Howard of Longview, the Executive Director of Newgate Mission.

“We firmly believe someone should not go without a hot meal because we’re here. We will provide it, we will give it to you free of charge, and it will be fantastic,” Howard said.

The Christ-centered community center makes sure people are full of food and faith.

“Some people are a little bit more down on their luck and others, but it makes it easy to talk to them because of who Newgate is,” Howard said. “When they come to the door, they know they’re going to meet me or my staff, and my staff is very wonderful.”

Howard describes the organization as a judge-free zone open to everyone in the Longview community.

“We don’t ask any questions,” Howard said. “Just come on in; we’ll serve you. Then remember to come back the next day and get you some food, some coffee, and some donuts and some word because you’re going to get the Word.”

They welcome more than 200 people through their doors daily. In addition to meals, Newgate also provides transportation, a place to shower or wash clothes, and healthcare checkups.

“We don’t try to push you,” Howard said. “We just want to encourage you to keep coming and to know that we’re your family, and we’re here to love you and help you.”

The organization creates a place where people feel safe and supported.
