East Coast Skiers Rejoice As Killington, VT Announces Opening Day

The time has finally come ladies and gentlemen. The Northeast's perennial favorite to be the 'first open' has just announced their opening day.

Killington, VT will open for Ikon Pass and season pass holders tomorrow Friday, November 3rd, 2023. Check out the full announcement below:

The mountain will open for the general public on Saturday, November 4th, 2023.

The news comes as a shock to many skiers considering Killington began snowmaking just earlier this week. Killington has one of the most robust snowmaking systems in the world, but pumping out enough snow to safely open in 72 hours is impressive no matter how you slice it.

Natural snow to the tune of 4 inches over the last 24 hours is also aiding in the accelerated opening day.

Read below for what skiers can expect on opening day at Killington:

"Hooray! The 2023-24 winter season starts tomorrow, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. with a passholder appreciation day! After opening day, the K-1 Express Gondola will spin from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. (last ride up at 3:00 p.m.) and North Ridge Quad will spin from 9:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. every day. We’ll use the Peak Walkway to get to and from the North Ridge Area for skiing and snowboarding – yes walking is required. All skiers and riders will download the K-1 Gondola at the end of the day. Skiing and snowboarding will be on advanced terrain only, with a Woodward Mountain Park in the North Ridge area on Reason."

Important to note that walking will be required along the Peak Walkway to and from the K-1 Gondola and the North Ridge Quad. This isn't anything new for opening day at Killington, but still worth calling out for skiers who may not wish to walk.

The season is finally here, my east coast friends. Can you smell it? Can you see it? Can you feel it?! Our long wait is finally over.

Sharpen those edges, wax those bases, tell your boss you're sick, and plan on ignoring all of life's less-important responsibilities. It's time to go skiing.

Have fun and stay safe out there, friends!
