East Coast Ski Resorts To Benefit From Multiple Feet Of Snow

Meteorologist Chris Tomer once again brings the heat (actually, in this case, colder weather predictions...) with a weather forecast that will strike joy into skiers across America, especially those on the East Coast.

In today's morning Mountain Weather Update, Tomer details not one, but three storm systems with the potential to bring serious snow.

The first storm, which Chris details as happening on the 4th and 5th, is part of the Southern track storm system, moving out of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico tonight.

Tomorrow, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado see "appetizer", pre-storm snow, somewhere between 2 to 6 inches.

But between the 6th and the 13th there are two more storm cycles to watch!

On 1/12 or 1/13 the storm even brings an "arctic blast", so pack those layers for the hill.

Many ski areas see over a foot of snow between the 9th and 13th, with 13 inches for Stevens Pass and Heavenly, 20 inches for Park City, 21 for Alta, and over two feet for Timberline, Mount Shasta, Grand Targhee, and Jackson Hole.

Best yet, all three storms are positive for the North East, and they deserve it. At the tail end of last month, resorts across New England were forced to close due to torrential downpours that wreaked havoc on trails and roads alike.

Mad River Glen in Vermont, for example, saw 3 inches of rain that damaged mountain operations and snow cover. Ultimately, the mountain paused operations to give the resort "time to drain."

MRG wasn't alone: Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Okemo, and Loon were among the long list of paused resorts after the flooding.

But now, Chris Tomer is back with the news of snow on the way!

From the 4th to the 13th, Sugarloaf is predicted to get 25 inches, Sunday River sees 26, Mt. Washington gets 35 (over three feet!), and Mount Snow gets 26.

All Vermont resorts are predicted to receive over a foot of snow, with Jay Peak getting 14 inches, Stowe getting 17, Mad River Glen at 18, Sugarbush at 21, Killington at 16, Okemo at 16, and Magic Mountain at 18.

The snow may change to rain in some parts of the storm and then shift back. High winds are also predicted.

But, that sounds like sweet redemption to us. Here's to hoping the forecast delivers!
