East Coast Powder Day? New Hampshire's Mount Washington Reports Fresh Snowfall

Spring settled in across the east coast weeks ago. Snowpacks melted quickly, the sun started shining, the flowers bloomed, and the majority of us (besides Killington, VT) have all but retired our skis until next season.

That's why I was shocked to see this morning that it snowed, yes snowed, at the summit of New Hampshire's Mount Washington last night. Check it out:

Caption from the Mount Washington Observatory: "Winter-like conditions have returned to the summit this morning with just over an inch of new snowfall and temperatures hovering in the 20s with stiff northerly winds adding a nip to the air. The wintry weather continues today but improving conditions are expected in the days ahead. Does 1 inch at the end of May officially count as an east coast powder day? Shoot. I've heard skiers call 1 inch of fresh snow "powder" in Vermont in the middle of February.

So, I'm saying yes! Today if officially a powder day at the summit of Mount Washington.

Sorry. I'm only kind of joking, but it is funny how much more excited us east coasters get for measly amounts of snow in comparison to our friends out west.

The weather will warm up on the 6,288-foot peak of Mt. Washington soon enough. But, in the meantime, enjoy this cloudy live look of the fresh snow still laying on the ground as seen on the Mount Washington Observatory Deck webcam:

Only true east coasters will appreciate seeing snow in late May. 😉
