This Is the Easiest At-Home Brow Tint I've Ever Tried

No mixing, no mess.

When you have relatively sparse, ashy brows like I do, you end up spending a lot of time filling them in. Sure, I don’t precisely draw on every single hair, carve them out with concealer or shellac them with a heavy coat of Anastasia Dip Brow like we all did back in 2016, but brow gel is still an essential step in my daily beauty routine. It usually takes just a few seconds, but all those seconds add up! Think of what you could be doing with all that extra time. (Um, scrolling TikTok?)

For awhile, I was visiting my esthetician for brow tints on a regular basis, but that fell off my schedule fast after having a baby. In the interim, I’d previously used a Maybelline tint that is not currently sold in the United States, or my old standby Kosas and Refy brow gels. But I’m always looking for the next new thing, so I was intrigued by Hally’s just-launched Brow Pal ($24), an at-home tint that promises “bolder and fuller-looking brows in just 10 minutes.” Could this save precious time (not to mention product costs) and give me the hint of tint I desire?

Ahead, everything you need to know about Hally Brow Pal, plus my honest review.

The Product

Brow Pal is a temporary tint that requires no mixing or at-home formulating and comes in three colors: Espresso, which they recommend for blondes and lighter hair colors; Midnight, which is recommended for people with darker hair; and Navy, for the “trendsetters” among us.

Brow Pal is extremely easy to apply. It comes in a convenient lip gloss-style tube with a doefoot brush applicator, so all you have to do is paint it right on your brows, let it sit anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes depending on how bold you want your color, then wipe it away with the included finger towel. That’s it!

How to Use It

As mentioned before, the tint was really easy to use, it felt just like applying any other brow gel. The color goes on super dark, as most tints and dyes do; I was rocking what a friend called “Joan Crawford brows” for my trial run with Espresso, the blonde shade. But don’t be fooled! You won’t end up with Sharpie brows, promise. You just gotta trust the process and let the dye do its thing.

After letting a thick layer sit for the recommended 10 minutes, I wiped it away and wasn’t wowed; the color wasn’t quite as dark as I typically prefer, so I tried another coat—this time for the full 20 minutes. Still, I wasn’t seeing the tint I wanted, which meant it was time for Midnight, the darker tone. After painting on another coat the next day and letting it sit for 15 minutes, I wiped it away with the fuzzy finger towel and was more pleased with the results.

My Review

Maybe I’m just used to in-salon tint sessions with more powerful dye, but Brow Pal didn’t quiiiiite live up to my expectations; it was pretty subtle, though it did give me a bit more fullness in the sparse spots. The Midnight color was good enough for everyday ease, but I’d still bump it up with a brow gel for a night out.

That’s not to say there isn’t a lot to love about Brow Pal. As I mentioned above, it’s beyond easy to apply; even newbies could figure it out. The tones are neither too cool nor too warm, so they look natural, and I had zero issues with the dye itself: no redness, irritation or any leftover color on my skin. One application lasts anywhere between three to five days, though I found three days to be more accurate in my experience.

Hally’s Brow Pal is a great way to dip your toes—or your brow hairs—into the world of at-home tinting. It’s designed for beauty enthusiasts of all expertise levels, though if you’re looking for super bold color, you may want to book with your local esthetician or colorist instead.
