'Easier to use than the vent clips': This $7 sticky pad is a smart alternative to phone mounts

Let's face it: phone mounts? Kind of ugly. There's not many ways to make something that's essentially a vent-mounted claw look good. If you prefer to be a bit more aesthetic with your vehicle, consider something like one of these non-slip pads. They'll keep your phone in place on the dashboard (along with other things like keys, coins, etc.) without blocking your airflow or rattling around while you're on the road.

Keep your favorite gadgets (and coins, keys, etc.) from sliding around with this friction-based non-slip pad.

Why is this a good deal?

These pads are normally $8 for a pack, but there's a 15% on-page coupon that drops the price to just $7. That might not seem like much of a discount, but the value grows when you realize they come five to a pack. That drops the price to less than $1.50 per pad, making it, by far, the best price on the web (it's nearly double the cost at Walmart).

Why do I need these?

These pads affix themselves strongly to the dashboard of your car, offering a reasonable alternative to those old, worn-out clip-based mounts. It can hold your phone in place, along with other in-car tools like a radar detector, spare change or even your keys. It doesn't require any mounting hardware, either — just lay it down against the dash and friction holds it in place. The top of the pad is sticky, but it doesn't leave behind a mark on your phone or any other object.

Another benefit to these pads being hardware-free is that you can remove them easily and clean them if they get messy. (Might we recommend the ColorCoral Cleaning Gel?) It's the perfect way to keep your car looking great, and they don't leave behind any residue on the dashboard. That said, the parent company warns that long-term exposure to direct sunlight can melt these mats, so try to place them somewhere that won't be in the sun for long hours each day.

What reviewers say

"My car dashboard is flat and the perfect spot to prop my phone up in front of the speedometer when needing to use a map app, however it would slide around. This mat was perfect for fixing that and keeping my phone in place," said one satisfied shopper. "It is quite sticky and I worried that it might leave residue on my phone case but that doesn't happen at all. I'm quite curious how they get it to stick. ... Highly recommend and I think this is easier to use than the vent clips or other phone holders for cars."

"We have one in each car and I even use one to hold a box of Kleenex on the top of the toilet so that it doesn't slide off," shared one creative user of the product.

"Fits my Subaru Forester perfectly. Great for parking cards. I added a pen and slim notebook and am ready to go. Nice quality too," said another shopper.

"Sticks like a bad reputation," said one jokester, who used it to hold their radar detector in place.

Another fan wrote, "I was worried about them melting in the sun, but they don't. They stick very well and initially are so sticky. They have toned down and no longer try to peel my phone case off, but it holds so well. I have put random things on it and it all stays. I even hold my phone on a vertical service easily."

While over 1,000 five-star fans praise this problem-solving product, some warn that you should steer clear of sticking it to leather interiors, "I used this on the dash of my work car and it worked great," said one owner. "So I decided to put one on the console of my car. This leather is soft and upon removing it a few weeks later it ruined the leather. ... Do not recommend for anything other than dash material."

While it's only available in a single color, these black pads still look stylish.
