A flashy Time gala deserves an equally flashy timepiece. Jalen Hurts thinks so, anyway.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback wore a chic Rolex Day-Date to an event for this year’s 100 Next inductees on Tuesday evening. More than 100 guests gathered at Second in Midtown Manhattan to celebrate a new generation of changemakers and creatives. Hurts, described as a “natural leader” by the magazine, turned up wearing a sharp navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and the aforementioned wrist candy.

Introduced in 2016, Ref. 228235 features a 40 mm case made from the Crown’s patented 18-carat pink-gold alloy “Everose” and an olive-green dial with a sunray finish. The model showcases day and date windows and timeless Roman numeral hour markers. It also sports Rolex’s signature fluted bezel, and is waterproof to 330 feet—not that you’d go diving in one of these things. The bezel and the classic President bracelet are both crafted from Everose to match the case.

This reference is powered by the in-house, self-winding 3255 caliber that keeps time to within -2/+2 seconds per day. This movement also gives the watch an impressive power reserve of 70 hours.

Priced at $41,500, Ref. 228235 statesman-like bearing is a fitting choice for one of the highest-paid NFL players of all time. It’s a popular model among high-flying athletes: Patrick Mahomes wore a platinum version during a visit to the White House in June, and Lebron James wore the same Everose model that Hurts has to Lionel Messi’s debut for Inter Miami a month later.

Hurts has already proved he has good taste in timepieces. The NFL star flexed a steely Cartier Santos while announcing his partnership with Jordan last August. The two-tone iteration, Ref. WSSA0037, features a 39 mm steel case, a bezel with a durable amorphous diamond-like carbon (ADLC) coating, and a steel crown set with a faceted black synthetic spinel.

Hurts clearly seems to be making the most of the $255 million that came with his record-breaking extension contract with the Eagles.
