The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall on 1,835 pounds of fresh ground beef from Dean & Peeler Meatworks, LLC, of Poth, TX due to possible E. coli contamination. Some of the products may already be in the hands of restaurants. Find all the details below.

Dean & Peeler Meatworks recall ground beef

A recall is never good, but it can be especially concerning when recalled items have been distributed to restaurants. That’s exactly the case with nearly 2,000 pounds of fresh ground beef from Dan & Peeler Meatworks.

The FSIS was notified of potential E. coli contamination after the meat from Dan & Peeler was tested by a third party lab. The beef tested presumptive positive for E. coli, a dangerous bacteria that can lead to cramps, diarrhea, fever, and more. In rare cases, E. coli infection can even result in life-threatening kidney disease.

Unfortunately, the recalled products have already been shipped to restaurants in San Antonio. The FSIS urges restaurants in possession of the potentially contaminated beef to throw it out or return it to the store it was purchased at. It should not be served under any circumstances.

The following products, which were produced on August 22 and have an establishment number of EST. 51283, have been recalled:

  • Peeler Farms WAGYU BEEF GROUND BEEF, in 1-lb., 5-lb., and 10-lb. bags. Lot code: 17836

  • R-C RANCH TEXAS CRAFT MEATS WAGYU RC13610 STEAKOHOUSE BLEND - GROUND BEEF 5 lb. Lot code: 17816

  • R-C RANCH TEXAS CRAFT MEATS WAGYU RC13603 - GROUND BEEF PATTIES 8 oz. Lot code: 17816

Luckily, no illnesses have been reported from these products. However, it's important to take recalls seriously, as consuming contaminated food can have serious consequences on your health.

Other recent recalls include several related to listeria, like frozen vegetables from Kroger and kiwis.
