New year, new recalls. Aventon announced they are recalling approximately 2,300 of their Class 2 Sinch.2 folding e-bikes because they can accelerate unexpectedly, which poses a crash and injury hazard.

And Bell Sports is recalling approximately 11,000 of their Slope adult helmets because the strap anchor can dislodge from the helmet, which poses a risk in the event of a crash.

Aventon Working Toward Resolution

According to Bicycle Retailer, consumers should stop using Aventon’s Class 2 Sinch.2 folding e-bikes, and should contact Aventon for a free repair, including a controller software update, toll-free at 866-300-3311 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, by email or online.

So far there have been six reports of these models accelerating unexpectedly with no injuries reported. Bicycle Retailer reports that the bikes have been sold nationwide and online between April 2023 and August 2023. They retail for around $1,800.

Tom Sweeney, Marketing Specialist at Aventon, told Bicycling, “In accordance with the Consumer Product Safety Commission requirements, after we alerted them to the recall we have recently posted on our social channels and website about the recall.

“Once we found and tested the issue we sent the info to customers and began notifying customers and working to update all the bikes and eliminate the issue. All Sinch.2 inventory in our warehouse was updated and drives were shipped to our retail partners for them to update their inventory as well as service customer bikes that were already in the market.”

Sweeney also noted that in the letter that went out to customers, the brand asked, “If you own an Aventon Sinch.2 ebike, we urge you to contact your nearest authorized dealer at your earliest convenience to schedule a software flash, which will arrive at all dealers in the coming days. As a free service, this precautionary measure will ensure that your e-bike operates at the high standards of safety and quality that we stand for.”

Bell Sports Offering Full Refund

Bicycle Retailer also reported that Bell Sports is recalling their adult-sized Slope helmets that can be identified by an inner sticker that has the model name and B1161X. The helmets were sold in dark green and light blue. To date no incidents have been reported.

Consumers should stop using the recalled helmets and contact Bell for a refund at 800-456-2355 (Option 3) between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or by email (consumersupport-bell@bellhelmets.com).

The Slope helmets were sold at Target, Fred Meyer, Academy, other stores nationwide and other websites from January 2023 through April 2023 for about $30.
