'DWTS' Pro Jenna Johnson Opens Up About Miscarriage

Dancing with the Stars pro Jenna Johnson recently took some time on the MomForce podcast to open about a miscarriage she previously experienced.
In the episode, titled "Journey from Miscarriage to Motherhood," which aired on Tuesday, the winner of DWTS Season 28 opened up for the first time publicly about the miscarriage she had prior to giving birth to her son Rome this past January. "It's crazy how you can experience so much joy followed by so much devastation and sorrow," she said.

Johnson told the story, which started with her and husband (and fellow DWTS pro) Val Chmerkovskiy performing in a show together in Dallas. As they were practicing for the weekend-long event, she realized something was off, and that she may be bleeding. And when Val's face turned white as a result, it sent her into a panic.
"You're so helpless. There's nothing you can do in that moment, you know?" she described. Subsequently, it's taken her some time—as well as the birth of her son—for her to realize the tragedy she underwent is more common than she may have initially thought.
"It just became so apparent to me I am not alone in this," she said, "and this is something that needs to be spoken about because of all the feelings that I had felt, all of that trauma, all of that darkness. It put me in a deep depression for about eight months. It really did. It just needs to be talked about."
Johnson and Chmerkovskiy were blessed with Rome's arrival on January 10, 2023. "I promise I will share more when we are ready," she wrote in posting the first photos of the newborn on Instagram. "Trying to soak up all of these precious moments and transition into parenthood the best we can. I do finally understand what everyone has been preaching to me… 'You think you know what love is, and then you have a child.' My heart is forever his and my world is so much brighter with him in it 🤍."
