Actor, producer and wrestler Dwayne Johnson (better known as The Rock) has a career that spans the industries – but a look inside his home suggests he's also no stranger to the design world.

The Rock shared a rare glimpse of his Los Angeles home, or more specifically, his living room – that subtly taps into one of 2023's most sought-after design trends: quiet luxury.

The quiet luxury movement is currently reshaping aesthetics in both the home interior and fashion worlds – and it's something we can certainly get behind. The interior design trend celebrates understated elegance and timelessness through the use of high-quality materials that will look just as sophisticated in years to come.

Fuelled by social media, the term itself has risen to prominence in recent months, but a look at Dwayne's Instagram suggests he had seamlessly tapped into the trend long before it entered the public realm.

So what makes Dwayne Johnson's living room so quietly luxurious? From his bespoke bookshelf to his timeless choice of sofa, there are many reasons why we can associate The Rock's space with this trend. However, designers say that his use of stone (seen surrounding his fireplace) and the gold finishes (floor lamp included) epitomize the look the most.

'Natural stone is strikingly beautiful. You immediately recognize the quality of the natural material when you see it. It speaks for itself. Stone exudes luxury and is truly timeless in nature. After all, it has been around (quite literally) forever,' says designer Laura Chappetto Flynn from the Element Design Network.

Stone aside, Laura says that gold accents (as demonstrated in Dwayne's lighting and the hardware on his French doors) are similarly impactful in achieving the look.

'When gold accents first came back in interior design, many thought it was a trend that wouldn’t stick around for long. We are seeing gold accents make their mark in the quiet luxury aesthetic, and warm hardware is here to stay,' she says. 'The perfect gold accents should be like wearing a beautiful pair of diamond studs. Their presence is known and they speak volumes without the need to scream.'And when looking for elegant hardware (both in our living rooms and our kitchens), Laura reminds us that choosing the right finish is everything.

'Opt for muted gold tones or unlacquered brass hardware that naturally ages over time to truly create a timeless look,' she says.

While we can't recreate Dwayne's space exactly (sadly we can't all have a stone fireplace on that level), it is more than possible to learn from his injection of natural materials and gold finishes and bring them into our space on a scale that works for us. 'A great tip when you are incorporating quiet luxury into your space is to mix your materials,' Laura says.

'When you mix materials and have certain elements in a gold-toned finish and others in a black or polished nickel finish, your eye is not overwhelmed by the abundance of one finish.  This will create a high-end overall result. It is said that quality is a habit. When you invest and put effort into maintaining quality materials, they will stand the test of time.'
