New Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon trailer reveals Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma's Z-Moves

A new trailer for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon has shown off what looks to be the primary antagonist for the new games: Necrozma. This legendary Pokémon is taking over the two flagship legendary Pokémon from Sun and Moon to gain new forms, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma. These two forms have been known about for a month or so, but this is the first extended footage we've seen of the new forms.

In Pokémon Ultra Sun, Necrozma will take over the legendary Pokémon Solgaleo, while in Pokémon Ultra Moon, it will take over the legendary Pokémon Lunala, to become Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma respectively. They look a lot like Solgaleo and Lunala, but with some dark black tints to indicate Necrozma's influence.

Dusk Mane Necrozma is a Psychic/Steel type Pokémon, with the special Z-Move Searing Sunraze Smash. Here's its full description:

"This form of Necrozma manifests when the Pokémon takes control of both the body and mind of the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo, absorbing the light energy that pours out of it. It slices opponents with its strong claws on its four legs and it can propel itself forward by shooting black light from both sides of its chest."

Searing Sunraze Smash, which you can take a look at in the video, is a Steel type Z-Move that can be used if you have a Solgaleo that knows Sunsteel Strike and is holding Solganium Z. Z-Moves were introduced in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, and act as an incredibly powerful attack that can only be used once per battle, and require a special item to be held by the Pokémon that wishes to use one.

Dawn Wings Necrozma, on the other hand, is a Psychic/Ghost Pokémon, with the Z-Move Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom.

"This form of Necrozma manifests when the Pokémon takes control of the Legendary Pokémon Lunala, stealing its light energy by force. Dawn Wings Necrozma accelerates by shooting black light from its back. This Necrozma form shoots energy that glows darkly from the black parts of its wings."

Similarly to Searing Sunraze Smash, Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom, a Ghost-type Z-Move, can be used if you have a Lunala that knows Moongeist Beam and is holding Lunalium Z. This attack also ignores an opponent's Ability. If Necrozma knows either Sunsteel Strike or Moongeist Beam, and is holding the right Z-Crystal, it can also use these Z-Moves.

Necrozma also has its own special move: Photon Geyser. It's a Psychic type move that uses the Attack and Special Attack stats of whichever Pokémon has the higher of the two, making it effective against Pokémon with higher Attack and Special Attack than Necrozma.

Pokemon Ultra Sun Ultra Moon Where to buy

Finally in the trailer, we've got an insight into how the Rotom Dex (Pokémon's new and improved living Pokédex) is improving over Pokémon Sun and Moon, which can give you rewards for being friends with it. The Rotom Dex itself also improves how you can use Z-Moves, as it will eventually unlock a Z-Power, allowing you to use one extra Z-Move in battle, all through the Rotom Dex's "Z-Powered friendship support."

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are releasing on 17 November, later this year.
