Dunkin’ Is Test Selling Premade Salads In Portable Jars At A Few Locations
Dunkin’ is trying out an unexpected new food option at select locations: salads. The salads will be premade daily by the Chicago-based company Farmer’s Fridge and sold in portable jars. Basically, you might be able to find true balance by enjoying a salad with your go-to donut and coffee order—all in one stop.
Six Dunkin’ locations—half in Chicago and half in New Jersey—will test-sell the salads along with grain bowls and other healthy food options from Farmer’s Fridge, according to Fox Business. The company will make the food daily and deliver it to participating locations for a three-month trial. Essentially, the test will inform if customers who frequent Dunkin’ will choose to buy salads.
Farmer’s Fridge’s mission is to “make fresh, healthy food as accessible as a candy bar,” founder and CEO Luke Saunders told the Chicago Tribune: “If we can figure out how to put this in every Dunkin’ we would absolutely do that.”
While Dunkin’ first became iconic as a donut shop, the chain has expanded its offerings over the years. Coffee drinks are now a huge focus and even led to the removal of “Donuts” from the chain’s name in 2018. Plus, the chain sells loads of breakfast sandwiches, snacks, and other bakery items. Sure, salads are in a whole different lunchtime area, but portable salads seem like they could easily find a home at Dunkin' if customers are into the quick, healthy bite concept. Only time will tell!
