Dune 2 Dominates the Box Office in Its Opening Weekend

Dune: Part Two is finally in theaters, and the box office numbers say it's a hit.

Audiences were out in droves to get a ticket to the hottest film in town, and it has garnered Warner Bros a spicy opening sum of $81.5 million at the domestic box office.

For context, that is just $1 million less than Oppenheimer made during its opening weekend, which eventually went on to gross $957.7 million at the worldwide box office.

International sales made up a larger portion of Dune: Part Two's opening weekend, with $97 million coming from overseas for a total of $178.5 million worldwide.

When Dune hit theaters in 2021, it made a respectable $41 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend, so Dune: Part Two almost doubling that sum is impressive.

Dune made $433.7 million total worldwide during its theatrical run, and Dune: Part Two is on track to beat that, and then some, should the momentum stay hot.

Audiences are also loving the film, giving it a score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes against the critics' ranking of 93%.

Will the film be knocking on a billion's door by the time it's wrapping up in theaters? Only time will tell.
