Dude Looks Like a Lady: The Most Gender Fluid Styles From the Men’s Shows
On Monday in Milan, Gucci designer Alessandro Michele showed his second menswear collection for the Italian label with an interesting bent. As the conversation about gender fluidity continues to permeate the media, Michele sent his male models down the runway wearing lace blouses, floral-embroidered suits, and white crocheted short shorts (some of these looks were adorned with pearls, btw). But the Gucci maestro, who interspersed women into his runway lineup in equally as ambiguous looks, is not the only one currently subverting gender norms. Moschino’s creative director, Jeremy Scott, was seemingly inspired by the notion of Marie-Antoinette-meets-Liberace with a collection that showed hyper masculine male models wearing hot pink ruffled shirts. J.W Anderson, meanwhile, had his models wearing an updated version of a Mary Jane shoe (in red patent, no less!). Marc Jacobs, Burberry, and Alexander McQueen are other labels that are playing with the idea of the sexes.
