Duchess Meghan Is Watching Prince Philip's Funeral From California

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will be paying tribute to the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, from her California home.

A spokesperson has confirmed that Meghan, who was not cleared to fly from California to Britain by her physician due to her current stage of pregnancy, will instead be watching the Windsor Castle funeral service from the States. The duchess is currently pregnant with her second child with Prince Harry.

Harry and Meghan have also sent a special wreath with a handwritten note by the duchess for the solemn occasion. Designed by florist Willow Crossley, who previously completed floral arrangements for the evening portion of the Sussexes' 2018 wedding in Frogmore Gardens as well as for their son Archie's christening at Windsor Castle, the wreath features flowers with some special meaning, as requested by the duke and duchess. It includes bear's breeches, which are the national flower of Greece, to represent Prince Philip's heritage, as well as sea holly, which represent the late prince's service in the Royal Marines. Other symbolic flowers featured are campanula for gratitude and everlasting love, rosemary for remembrance, lavender for devotion, and roses in honor of Prince Philip's birth month.

The couple previously honored Prince Philip after Buckingham Palace announced his death on April 9.

"In loving memory of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021," read a message on the homepage of their nonprofit organization's official website, Archewell. "Thank you for your service...you will be greatly missed."

Prince Harry also released a longer statement in tribute to his grandfather.

"My grandfather was a man of service, honour and great humour. He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm—and also because you never knew what he might say next," the Duke of Sussex said. "He will be remembered as the longest reigning consort to the Monarch, a decorated serviceman, a Prince and a Duke. But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right 'til the end."
