Some sad news for Sussex fans across the pond: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry are no longer planning to return to the United Kingdom this year.

It was previously reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, would return to England ahead of 2021. At the time, a Sussex source told BAZAAR.com, "Had it not been for COVID-19 and travel restrictions, they would have already been back in the U.K.—for things like Beatrice’s wedding and Trooping of the Colour for example."

Reports now suggest that the Sussexes have officially changed their plans. Royal correspondent Carolyn Durand reported for ELLE.com that Meghan and Harry are "expected to spend Christmas in California," rather than celebrating the holidays with the royal family in England. Sadly, the Sussexes reportedly had to change their plans for a number of reasons, including the fact that the U.K. is going into its second nationwide lockdown tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a source close to the couple tells BAZAAR.com that the Sussexes will remain in California for the holidays now that the trial has been postponed. The source also added that Meghan and Harry are following government guidelines when it comes to travel.

Meghan's trial against The Mail on Sunday, originally set to start in January, was recently delayed until fall 2021, per The Associated Press. Meghan's request for a postponement was granted on "a confidential ground," BAZAAR.com previously learned, meaning that the Sussexes won't need to travel to the U.K. for the in-person court case for quite some time.

That, coupled with the impending lockdown, it makes sense why Meghan and Harry would choose to spend Christmas 2020 in their Montecito home with Archie.
