Now that the United Kingdom's second national lockdown has lifted, some elements of everyday life can return to normal. Notably, Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to resume in-person duties this weekend with a tour of England, Scotland, and Wales on the royal train.

According to a press release from Kensington Palace, Duchess Kate and Prince William will embark upon the mini-Royal Train Tour "ahead of the Christmas holidays to pay tribute to the incredible work of individuals and organisations that have gone above and beyond in response to the coronavirus pandemic." Starting today (Sunday, December 6), Kate and William will abide by the current COVID-19 guidance in place, but plan to "travel 1250 miles and undertake working visits, meeting frontline workers, volunteers, care home staff, teachers, schoolchildren and young people to hear about their experiences, sacrifices and the inspiring work they have done throughout this challenging year."

The small royal tour will allow the Cambridges to pay tribute to key workers across the United Kingdom, letting them know how grateful everyone is for their hard work. The visits will also highlight the arts and heritage sectors, following the government's implementation of a Culture Recovery Fund, which has supported some, but not all, creative organizations and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As noted by the press release, "10-year-old British artist, Joe Whale, has created a doodle to bring the journey to life."

Per a Kensington Palace spokesperson, "The Duke and Duchess are very much looking forward to shining a spotlight on the incredible work that has been done across the country throughout this difficult year and to sharing their gratitude on behalf of the nation for all those supporting their local communities ahead of the Christmas holidays."
