Dublin native publishes book after interviewing 1,000 strangers across the country
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – At 24 years old Dublin native Imran Nuri was in the midst of a self-proclaimed quarter life crisis.
The non-profit he started had just closed and he was working a job that wasn’t fulfilling for him. Instead of staying the course he plotted a new course across the United States.
His goal was to seek advice from 1,000 strangers along the way. Asking each person what they would tell their younger selves he wasn’t requesting advice for himself but rather learning from them in a unique and intimate way.

“It gave everybody a platform to share anything that was true for them. And they could share it with me as a stranger, as someone who doesn’t know anything about their past, their friends or anything else,” said Nuri, who published “Advice from America”, a picture book which shares advice from strangers.
“And so, it was kind of like a safe space for someone to share their deepest truest thoughts about how to make the most of life,” he said.
Advice about money to love, there were many themes along the way but one in particular came up time and time again.
“So many people talked about the theme of becoming the person that you want to be regardless of other people’s expectations of you. Overall, I noticed that people have so much more in common with one another across the entire country then we realize,” Nuri said.

“I see so much about hatred and violence, and those things happen, but they are not the majority of what happens. And what I saw was extreme kindness all over the entire country. Over and over again, all ages, all backgrounds, and that was very inspiring and eye-opening for me to see.”
Imran chronicled his journey in “Advice from America: Life Advice and Photos of 1,000 Strangers from 48 States.”
