Dua Lipa went public with French film director Romain Gavras during her first Cannes red-carpet appearance in May 2023. They were first linked together earlier that year, when they were spotted holding hands while exiting a Paris Fashion Week event, just days after they left a BAFTAs after-party together. A source told The Sun at the time that the pair had been “quietly getting to know each other” for months. The two ultimately called it quits on their relationship by the end of 2023.

Gavras was born in Paris and is the son of Greek-French director Costa Gavras, with filmmaking running in the family. His most recent feature-length project was the acclaimed 2022 Netflix film Athena, which competed at last year's Venice Film Festival. He has also directed fragrance campaigns for luxury houses including Louis Vuitton and Dior, as well as several music videos. He won a 2012 MTV Video Music Award for M.I.A.'s “Bad Girls,” and was nominated for a Grammy in 2013 for directing Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean's “No Church in the Wild,” per his IMDb page.
He's 14 years older than Dua.
The filmmaker, born in 1981, is 14 years Lipa's senior at 42 years old. (His birthday falls on July 4.)
He was previously romantically linked to another British singer.
Gavras dated Rita Ora for several months in 2020, with the Daily Mail reporting in March 2021 that the couple had broken up. Ora is now married to Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
“Rita and Romain split up months ago because of difficulties with their respective work commitments,” a spokesperson told the outlet. “They remain close friends.”
The filmmaker is seemingly Lipa's first serious relationship since she parted ways with model Anwar Hadid. She was previously linked to former The Daily Show host Trevor Noah and rapper Jack Harlow.
Their relationship got “pretty serious.”
In early September, a source opened up to Us Weekly about the couple's relationship dynamic.
“Dua and Romain are a great match because they both push each other to do better,” the insider told the outlet. “They are both very creative people and have lifted each other’s art up to a new level.”
The source added that Lipa and Gavras are “always laughing” and “constantly showing physical affection” while they “try to spend every moment together that they can.” They continued, “Things are getting pretty serious and both are very happy.”
