Dua Lipa Shares Behind-the-Scenes Footage of the Making of Her Dance Track for “Barbie”

Dua Lipa’s Barbie era isn’t over yet.

The Grammy winner recently took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes footage of the making of “Dance the Night,” her disco-pop dance track for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

In the clips, which were captured at a studio, Lipa sings the lyrics to “Dance the Night” while watching a choreography scene of the Barbies dancing in the movie. She also shared footage of the an orchestra performing the instrumental for the final version of the song, as well as a video of producer Mark Ronson closing his eyes and snapping to the beat of the track.

She captioned the post, “The making of ‘Dance The Night’ for Barbie 💖 @iammarkronson @wyattish @carolineailin 💖.”

Fans immediately expressed their awe for the singer’s work in the comments section.

“They filmed the scene before the song 🤯,” one user wrote.

“The way it sounds so different to the final result shows how hard you work 💗,” another fan added.

In addition to contributing music to the movie’s soundtrack, Lipa also makes a cameo in the film, as a mermaid version of the iconic Mattel doll.

The musician reflected on the movie in a May 2023 interview with Dazed. “Barbie, the doll, has this idea of what perfection should be,” she said at the time. “The film—and there’s a lot of diversity in the cast—is touching exactly on the buttons that maybe it presses, and shows a different story.”

Of how “Dance the Night” fits into the film, she added, “Greta said that the whole film was inspired by disco. There’s a lot of very glittery and pop moments in it.”
