Dua Lipa Is a Redhead Now

New era incoming.

Dua Lipa is a style chameleon, but for the past few years, her hair has remained a constant. No matter if she's at the Met Gala, starring in an ad campaign, or on her sold-out tour, she can always be spotted with her signature dark black hair—usually in a middle part and a little bit wavy, and always with a healthy sheen. The only times she ever parted with this look was when she tried out bangs or when she wore a handful of colorful wigs in the Barbie movie—that is, until now.

She's been teasing us all week with hints of a new musical era—deleting all her social media posts, changing her profile pictures to a kaleidoscope view of herself, and remixing all her album covers into similar kaleidoscope artwork. Her latest tease, though, was her biggest yet.

On October 12, Dua posted a video to her Instagram Story of her eye in the center of a kaleidoscope before backing up, revealing a glimpse at a big hair change. Then, later that day, it was confirmed when she posted a photo with cherry cola red hair with the caption, "miss me?"

The new hair look was similar in length to her previous black hair, appearing to go to about her chest with the same volume, loose waves, and shine she always has. The big change was, of course, the color, which was the deep red we have seen on Megan The Stallion, Shay Mitchell, Dove Cameron, and other It Girls all year.

The change is the perfect way to kick-off Lipa's new era. Based on the kaleidoscope theme and rumors of a psychedelic rock-influenced sound, this was an easy way to bring a distinct vibe to her new album, edge up her appearance, and stay on trend while honoring the resurgence of the grungy '90s when the hair color was first popular.

"It is no surprise that cherry cola-colored hair is trending. With the '90s influence still strong in fashion, it is time for a revival of '90s color trends for hair," Ian Michael Black, Global Artistic Director for Hair Color at Aveda, previously told us. "We have seen in recent months a strong move towards all shades of red, from bright true reds through burgundies, and all shades of copper, from soft strawberry blondes to strong Irish red tones."

You can easily channel Dua's new hairstyle with a trip to the hairstylist. But cherry-cola or not, we will be streaming her new album immediately upon release.
