Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream ($69)

The Formula

Out of the brand's previous moisturizers, the Bora Barrier Repair Cream is its thickest, richest yet— true to an emollient. Bora Barrier harnesses the power of six butter lipid complex to encourage the natural production of collagen, lipids, and hyaluronic acid, as well as soothe and strengthen the skin barrier. The goal? Promote elasticity and provide intense moisturization.

Redness-reducing zinc and copper salt minerals provide antioxidants, with alpha glucan–derived from rice—rounding out the formula, offering a boost of extra hydration. Following Drunk Elephant's "Suspicious 6" principle, the cream is free of essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes, and sulfates, as well as being vegan and cruelty-free.

How to Use It

Drunk Elephant recommends applying one pump morning and night to freshly cleansed, dry skin. You can use it daily solo, mixed with additional Drunk Elephant serums, treatments, and creams, or in rotation with other products. Though Bora Barrier Repair Cream is suitable for all skin types, including those with eczema, psoriasis, or extremely dry or sensitive skin.

"Thanks to my autoimmune disease, my skin has been dry since the day I was born. Because of that, I've been on the hunt my whole life for a moisturizer that is occlusive but not heavy, hydrating, but not greasy. So when I say that Drunk Elephant's latest offering has made it into my skincare rotation, that is exceptionally high praise. Off the bat, I could not get enough of the buttery texture and rich (not heavy!) feel. It was thick yet spread easily: I only needed one pump to moisturize my entire face and neck. It took some time for the cream to absorb into my skin, but I don't mind, as I plan to use it at night. In the morning, I woke up to find the dry patches on the bridge of my nose and my cheeks smoother, with no flaking and less redness. To sum it up, I'm in love."

"I'm on a tretinoin prescription from my dermatologist, which has fortunately been very effective at keeping my skin blemish-free. But on the flip side, the topical treatment often leaves me with raw, flaky patches around sensitive areas like my nose and lip corners—especially in the winter. Luckily for me, those patches are no match for Drunk Elephant's new moisturizing cream. Because I have acne-prone skin that tends to prefer lighter-weight moisturizers (Drunk Elephant's Protini is one of my all-time favorites), I use this as a barrier cream, applying a layer to sensitive areas of my skin before I apply my retinoid. It gives my skin a nice buffer from the harsh acne medication and is incredibly effective—I have zero flaky patches in sight this season."
