Take a drone tour over the rare sight of Venice covered in snow
The Floating City has been transformed into a frozen city, after the so-called "Beast from the East" weather system landed in Venice yesterday.
Snow doesn’t fall in Venice very often, but when it does the sight is quite spectacular, as captured by birds-eye drone footage taken by staff at the Bauer Palazzo hotel. The video shows some of Venice’s most iconic sights, from Piazza San Marco across to Cannaregio and beyond, cloaked in snow.
Today’s London temperature of -2°c is considerably lower than Venice's average temperature on March 1st over the past decade, when the mercury typically settles between 4°c and 10°c.
People have taken to Twitter to share their images of Venice under snow.

Some reminisced of snowfalls from a time long ago, like this shot of a heavy snowfall back in 1951.

The freak weather system, caused by stratospheric warming in the Arctic and the resulting weakening of the jet stream, has seen freezing cold air from Russia cover much of northern Europe. Bringing, of course, inevitable travel disruption in the UK.

And there's more to come. Storm Emma has already hit the Azores and is travelling northwards, when it will bring blizzards to northern Europe and southern parts of the UK.
