Driver Races Truck Down The World's Toughest Downhill MTB Track

Anyone who has gone shuttling knows how fun the “beat the truck to the bottom” challenge can be. This can be easy or hard depending on what the road is like.

It is close to impossible when the driver is “Mad” Mike Whiddett in his Rumbull race truck. Watch Matt Jones ride along with Mad Mike as they try to beat Jackson Goldstone’s record down the Red Bull Hardline mountain.

Though the title might suggest they rode it down the world-famous track, unfortunately, they just went down the shuttle road. Mad Mike displays some incredible driving skills in those turns.

To demonstrate the forces that the Rumbull truck puts on its ball joints, they snapped a wheel off just drifting a corner. It is hard to imagine maintaining a vehicle that you thrash harder than a bike.

In this video, Whiddett and Jones complete the track in 2:19, just quicker than Goldstone’s record.

Whether they fudged the time is up for debate. It seems too perfect that a video with a lot of cuts and interior shots showed them pair beating Goldstone by a single second. It could well have been dramatized for effect.

Whether this was actually a genuine attempt or a publicity stunt with an iPhone timer hardly matters. The two got in that truck and created a very entertaining video of a drift truck at a mountain bike race.
