Raise your hand if you’ve ever cleaned up a mess in one part of the house, just to have your toddler make a mess in another part. Or if you’ve ever walked into a room and thought it was hit by a tornado — but it was just your kids. Or if you’ve ever stepped on a toy, picked up the same bin of toys multiple times in one day, or curled up with a glass of wine and did your best to just ignore the mess. By now, all of our hands should be up! Cleaning is just so damn hard. I don’t care if you are the tidiest person in the world, having kids just takes it all out of you. And if you do finally get your house clean, they will just wake up in the morning and destroy it all again in minutes. It’s like their superpower!

This weekend, skip the cleaning marathon and watch Drew Scott’s funny new cleaning tips video instead. It might just make you feel better about the state of your house.

What’s the Solution?

“4 Cleaning Tips for New Parents,” the Property Brothers co-host, who shares son Parker, 22 months, with his pregnant wife Linda Phan, captioned a new video on Instagram. “Here are my top four tips for how new parents can keep their house clean,” he says in what looks like a professional video. He’s sitting on an ottoman in his living room, with art hanging on the room, books piled up neatly on an end table behind him, and no sign of toys in sight.

Now at this point, you might be rolling your eyes and thinking, what could a dad of one 22-month-old really know what it means to have out-of-control mess? But stick with him, parents — this video is so funny.

Four Tips

Tip number 1: “You don’t,” he says as the camera pans over a wild living room. It looks like the aftermath of the Bluey “Cubby” episode, with half a fort hanging out, ball pits, stuffed animals, and more all over the furniture and the couch. And it’s so real! You don’t keep your house clean, it’s just not on the agenda this week (or for the next 18 years).

Tip number 2: “You can’t.” Oof! But again, true. This video shows stuffed animals and clothes to-be-folded taking up the bed and chair in the bedroom. The never-ending laundry is just part of the reason why you’re house will never truly be clean.

Tip number 3: “You can try,” Scott encourages, as he shows his dining room floor covered with Cheerios. Which leads to tip number 4: “Good luck.” Because, yes, you’ll definitely need it.

“Seriously, good luck … 😂” he captioned the hilarious clip. It’s nice to know even this HGTV star has a hard (read: impossible) time keeping his home clean. (Note: Scott and his brother Jonathan Scott actually did create a 7-Day Spring Cleaning Challenge you can try if you want. But you might need a babysitter first!)

Sweet Comments

“Perfect Advice! Second, don’t sweat it eventually they will learn the clean up game,” one person commented.

“😂 it gets worse each kid …” another warned. Someone else shared, “The Cheerios! I think we swept up as many as my kids ate! 😂”

“That was the best advice I have ever heard ❤️,” another person commented, and we couldn’t agree more. It’s past time to let go of the pressure of a perfect house, pets, and family, and we love how Scott is normalizing this.

‘75% of Parenting’

The Celebrity IOU star often makes funny and relatable parenting content. In Nov. 2023, he made a silly video where he fainted several times, using the popular “Miss Rabbit Has Fainted” sound from a Peppa Pig episode. At one point, he walks into a super messy living room and falls over pretending to faint, as text spells out, “When the toys you just put away magically appear again.”

Another time, he pretends to faint when this happens: “When your baby starts crying the moment you leave their room.” Been there too!

He captioned the post, “This sums up 75% of #parenting.” Hey, if you don’t laugh you’ll cry! And Scott gives us plenty of opportunities to laugh at the not-so-fun sides of parenting.
