And she's here to make gifting easier

Drew Barrymore just accepted her most enviable role yet: Etsy’s first-ever Chief Gifting Officer, a job entirely devoted to helping shoppers find the perfect presents for everyone in their lives. Barrymore, whose “Beautiful” line has us constantly obsessed with her taste, calls herself “the gifting godmother.”

Alongside Etsy’s newly launched Gift Mode, an interactive hub that uses AI with human curation to help people find gifts for any occasion, she’s sure to help—and we really need it. According to a recent survey from Etsy, nearly three in every four Americans have felt anxiety about gift shopping within the past year. And more than three in every five Americans say it takes a lot of effort to find the right gift.

“Let’s face it, buying gifts is hard,” Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy’s resident trend expert, said in the survey. “An act that should be an expression of love and care can often turn into a stress-riddled burden.”

Barrymore sat down with Johnson to chat about her favorite Etsy purchase, the best gifts she’s found on the site, keeping notes from the sellers, and what she’s most excited about this Valentine’s Day.

“I'm such an Etsy girl. There's really not much you can't fulfill for yourself and other people in the Etsy world, and you're dealing directly with people who made it," Barrymore told Johnson. "It's supporting all the right people and things, and we all do things in different ways. For me, Etsy is such an important destination. And it's so vast, and I love it. And I feel very honored to be doing this with [them].”

If you're shopping for a special flower child, Barrymore’s recommendations include gifts like this $52 Handmade White Cappuccino Mug with Flowers, these $168 Daisy Wide Leg Jeans, and this $82.50 Granny Square Bag.

She also made recommendations for your nature lover friends and family, a $95.83 Lavender Paper Flower Bouquet in a Wood Vase, a $26.00 Moons and Moth Mirrored Acrylic Night Light, and a $208.35 Blue And White Flower Vase.

For the host in your life, a $62.00 Wabi Brass Serving Utensil Set, a $17.30 Ellie Twisted Taper Candle, and a $72.00 set of four Checkered Drink Coasters—and more.

There are lists of gifts curated by Barrymore for “The Mom,” “The Cheese Lover,” and “The Interior Designer,” too. Each of the gifts is lovely and personal, and most of them are handmade, but they all have that special Barrymore flare. One gifting tactic Barrymore never uses? Regifting.

“I have never done it because I am so scared,” Barrymore told Johnson. “I'm gonna get caught that the person would think like, you don't care about me. So I'm not for it, but out of personal terrified fear that they'll find out it's a re-gift.”

With Valentine’s Day coming up, there are plenty of gift givers — and receivers — who need Barrymore and Etsy’s help. For her part, she already bought her and her daughter some gifts.

“I got my daughter's and myself pencils on Etsy that we were able to personally inscribe,” she told Johnson. “So I got some that say Frankie Foodle Noodle, because that's her nickname for my daughter, Frankie. And Olive Bear, because that's her nickname. And it was a small lift. It brought so much joy to me. Yeah. And whenever I pull out these pencils, it just makes me feel so good.”

Whether you're looking for gifts for a friend, a lover, or just something special for yourself, Barrymore and Etsy have you covered.
