Drew Barrymore Admits She Could Go ‘Years’ Without Having Sex in Response to Andrew Garfield Comment

But one thing the 47-year-old is often tight-lipped about is her relationship status and dating details: Fans recently got a sneak peek into Barrymore’s light humor when it comes to getting intimate. On Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the Charlie’s Angels star revealed that she thinks she can go “years” without having sex. And we can’t stop laughing at her statement.

This all began when Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield revealed on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast that he dropped weight and abstained from sex for six months as part of his preparations for Martin Scorsese’s 2016 movie Silence. And though many seem impressed by the actor’s dedication to his craft through method acting, Barrymore had a lot to say about Garfield’s months of abstinence.

When Barrymore heard of this long-lasting bout of celibacy she offered her response during the “Drew’s News” segment of her September 20th episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. Barrymore and Drew Barrymore Show contributor Ross Matthews joked about the news, claiming that Garfield’s difficult six months were nothing. “Well, I get abstaining from sex, I did that my entire 20s,” Mathews said jokingly, according to Entertainment Tonight.

To which Barrymore responded, “I was like, ‘What’s wrong with me that six months doesn’t seem like a very long time?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, so?’” Ross then responded that the takeaway from the conversation was, “Drew can go six months, no big deal.” To which Barrymore clarified, “Oh, years.” The audience erupted in laughter at their banter.

Barrymore hasn’t opened up much about her relationships and sex life over the years, but we did get a glimpse into it during an early 2022 interview. In January, the actress got teary eyes when she discussed dating as a single mother of two daughters Olive and Frankie. In a previous interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning Barrymore opened up about Zoom dating and said, “I don’t know how to date with kids, you know, I’m not there yet. I have two young girls, and like, I don’t want to bring people home. I think that it would take me a very long time to meet someone and get to know them before I could ever introduce them to my daughters.”

She then added, “I’ll go on an occasional date, but that’s only in the last two years. It took me four to even step out there. And people have different processes.” She noted at the time that dating was extra hard during the COVID-19 pandemic.
