  • Dressbarn is closing after over 50 years in business.

  • The fashion chain announced the news in a letter and in a press release.

All good things must come to an end, and this is sadly the case for longstanding retailer, Dressbarn.

After more than 50 years in the industry, the women’s chain plans to close all 650 of its locations, according to the New York Times. Gary Muto, the chief executive of Ascena Retail Group Inc., confirmed the news in an open letter to customers.

“It has been a pleasure to serve you, making it all the more difficult to let you know that the decision has been made to begin winding down the Dressbarn business,” he wrote. “This means we will eventually be closing all of our stores.”

He added that the affordable fashion destination will still be available in the short term, and the current stores and the website are still functioning. The return, refund, gift card, and loyalty rewards policies will also remain intact for the time being.

As for why the company has decided to shutter Dressbarn, Chief Financial Officer Steven Taylor shared some clarity in a press release. “The decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment,” he said.

As for its employees, the business claims current associates “will be notified when decisions are made about specific store closures and provided with transition support.”

There’s still no word on exactly when this will take effect. But if you’ve been relying on Dressbarn for your go-to work, wedding, or date night wardrobe, we suggest you rush to your nearest store or fill your virtual cart with the essentials ASAP.
