The New Look transports viewers to when fashion icons Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, along with their peers, navigated the horrors of World War II in France and launched modern fashion. Fittingly, the entire series was filmed exactly where the true events it was inspired by took place: Paris. Series creator Todd A. Kessler knew shooting in the French capital was a must to showcase “the same streets that Christian Dior and Coco Chanel walked and lived” and “the same cafes and hotels that the Nazis occupied,” Kessler told The New York Times.

From glamorous hotels to buildings where tragic events took place, the locations are crucial to the tale. Below, discover everything we know about the filming locations featured in the Apple TV+ series so far. (It debuted with three episodes, so make sure to check back for updates as the rest of the 10-episode season drops weekly!)

Grand Amphithéâtre at the Sorbonne

In 1955, Dior held a fashion show and lecture tied to his “New Look” collection at the historic Grand Amphithéâtre at the Sorbonne. The university building opened in 1889 and features the famous canvas Le Bois Sacré (The Sacred Wood) by the French painter Puvis de Chavannes. With the capacity to hold nearly 1,000 people, the landmark is used for both academic and non-academic events today including ceremonies, concerts, and conferences.

Hotel Regina Louvre

While filming took place in Paris, some locations aren’t depicted by their real off-screen counterparts. Most notable is the Ritz Paris. Chanel famously took up residence at the luxury hotel located near her fashion house, living there for decades until she died in 1971. The former Nazi headquarters is portrayed by Hotel Regina Louvre in The New Look. Opposite the Louvre Museum, the hotel overlooks the serene Tuileries Garden. The interiors are the epitome of French elegance—from the grand lobby with checkerboard flooring and sparkling chandeliers to the bar with warm oak paneling and velvet seating.

Musée des Arts Décoratifs

Dior fans may know the Musée des Arts Décoratifs as the location where the luxury brand’s 70th-anniversary exhibition was held in 2017. The museum, which also appears in Emily in Paris, lent a backdrop for The New Look. The series features an art nouveau room at the museum called Salon du Bois. It serves as the room where couturier Lucien Lelong’s staff sews dresses.

Gallopin

Dior finds himself in a discussion about designing clothing during the Nazi occupation with the likes of Pierre Balmain and Cristóbal Balenciaga at a wood-paneled, mirror-covered bar. In reality, the brasserie is depicted by the Gallopin. Established in 1876, the brasserie serves up classic French cuisine and timeless cocktails—making it an excellent place to enjoy a meal in good company.

Maxim’s Restaurant

Another restaurant that provides a magical setting for a collaboration that'll make you uneasy is Maxim's. Among the dramatic interiors featuring a color palette of red, black and brown with pops of orange and teal, patrons can enjoy classic French dishes with a modern twist and live music.
