Dragon Ball Daima Goku and Vegeta

The Dragon Ball franchise has slowed a bit in recent years, following the end of the Dragon Ball Super anime. The manga’s continued, of course, and we’ve had a couple movies, but we’ve really been missing a regular anime series. That’s about to change, with a strange new series that’s being headed up by Akira Toriyama himself.

At New York Comic-Con yesterday, a brand-new Dragon Ball series was announced. It’s called Dragon Ball Daima, and it’s got a very strange premise. The basic gist of it is that somebody – we don’t know who, exactly – wished upon the Dragon Balls to turn pretty much everybody into children.

That includes Goku, who was also turned into a kid in the pseudo-canon Dragon Ball GT, but also Vegeta, Bulma, Krillin, Android 18, and almost everyone else we see in the trailer. Because Goku is a kid again, he’s also taken to using his power pole, Nyoibo, which is something we haven’t seen in quite some time. Maybe we’ll even see the Flying Nimbus again.

In a statement on the official Dragon Ball website, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama revealed that he’s been much more hands-on with the series than previous anime productions, having contributed the story, the setting, and many of the designs.

“I came up with the story and setting, as well as a lot of the designs,” Toriyama says, “I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual! Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!!”

It certainly is very cute, that’s for sure. Seeing little baby Vegeta all dressed up in his Saiyan battle gear is hilarious, and the art style for Daima is both adorable and gorgeous in its execution. It’s probably one of the best-looking series in the Dragon Ball franchise, honestly.

Dragon Ball Daima is set to start airing in Fall 2024.
