Dr. Pimple Popper Removes a Huge 'Chocolate Chip' Blackhead From a Man's Neck

• In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper removes a large neck blackhead that she compares to a chocolate chip.
• Dr. Lee uses her punch tool to help make the extraction go more smoothly.
• Blackheads form when dead skin cells exposed on the surface of the skin become oxidized and turn dark.

In her most recent Instagram post, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—helps a patient extract a very large blackhead from his neck. As she puts it more artfully in the post's caption, "This cute little blackhead looks like a chocolate chip in the neck."

In the video, Dr. Lee uses her trusty—and, as of late, seemingly more popular—punch tool to make a clean opening for extracting the cyst. (Meanwhile, the patient—much to the horror of the post's commenters, casually admits that he's never even heard of blackheads before.)

Blackheads, Dr. Lee could've told him, form on the surface of the skin when oil and dead skin cells become trapped. While most people mistake them for dirt due to their color, they actually look that way because of their exposure to the air, which forces the melanin inside to become oxidized, according to MedicalNewsToday. Thankfully, if you're dealing with blackheads yourself, they're relatively easy to treat using a variety of simple, dermatologist-approved over-the-counter treatments. Tempting as it may be, however, try not to follow Dr. Lee's lead in squeezing them—that could just make the problem worse.

Season 3 of Dr. Pimple Popper is currently airing on TLC on Thursday nights at 9/8 central.
